Did the outer loop at Timberland Hills this morning with nearly perfect conditions. Fresh corduroy, and the classic tracks looked good too. |

Nice pics. looks like the sled is missing a sleddog.
Did about 5k with temp in the 20F. They stopped grooming the multi trails because of lack of snow base, but it's been one of the best skiing conditions at least temp wise and snow conditions are good enough for edging but fast. |

Finally got some snow 3" friday and 3-7" on sunday. I had forgotten how much workout you get without grooming. I couldn't get any glide going and with snow sticking to the base it felt like I was skiing on carpet with velcros on. Did about 5k at walking speed in 25F. |

I have been negligent in reporting my daily skiing status.
Catching up for lost time: no, yes, yes, no, no, no, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no, no, no, yes, yes, no, no, no, no, no, yes, yes, no. |

"Boole goes skiing" is an allusion to the cartoon "Boole orders lunch" by Sydney Harris:

You need to post more often. this should be our "how was skiing today" kinda like "how was your commute" in the bike forum and "how many miles did you run" in the running forum. I think about 80% of the threads are about that and rest are on accidents/injury/helmets/bike lanes/equipment (bike/shoes).
Its been great after the grooming. temp 25F and its been dare I say it perfect 3 days of skiing so far. |

What a gem of a day. Temps in the 20's, bright sunshine, and I got out for an hour on the 12-14 inches of snow we just got. I skied at Minooka Park and it was easily the most folks I've seen out skiing on a weekday afternoon all year and it was not the 'gotta get some K's in before the Birkie' crowd either, it was Mom and Pop, or Super Soccer Mom just out enjoying the day.
Mr Groomer was out setting new tracks on his Alpina Sherpa. This is a pretty slick rig with a super wide track that makes it look so much different than the old Ski-Doo the park used to run.

Very nice. our muni guys are still using regular skidoo snowmobile setup while the NSAA guys are using the $200k multi groomer thingamajig they bought recently.
Another great day of skiing. but temp 30F is getting worrisome. looks like we missed the negative F temp this year but we're due for pineapple express from hawaii and temp of 40F and possible rain for week.

Not sure if you guys shop at REI but they are supposedly having a super clearance sale from Feb 12 to 21st.... 50% off items marked down xx.83 ... I think .83 is clearance, .93 is sale and .00 is msrp prices.
I didn't notice anything good for nordic equipment but maybe local stores will have better selection than online. |

Skied the trails north of town yesterday evening. We got half an inch of rain three weeks ago with only a couple inches of snow since then. The combination has left some fast conditions with so-so tracks (classic only system). Its also meant that some of the hills have bumps big enough to actually get some air, which is cool if you like that sort of thing.

looks nice. it's still 28F but forcast is for mixed snow/rain so who knows what we'll get. great skiing and I shouldnt be complaining till the rain shows up.
The selection isnt that great this year at REI online but looks like there is some deals for xc equipment. low level starting stuff but it's relatively inexpensive with the cleareance of 60-80% off msrp.
http://www.rei.com/search?search=83&cat=8000&cat=40004009&hist=query%2C83%5Ecat%2C40004009%3ACross-Country+Skiing
sns pilot classic boots for 27.83 and 34.83
jr boots for 12.83
172cm ski for 34.83
And found some biking shirts 9.83 and biking shorts 16.83 at rei outlet. I think nashbar sells the shorts for cheaper price but the shipping kills the deal for me... at least with REI i can ship it for free to the store for pickup. |

Great day. did 5k with temp hovering around 30F.
After watching the unlimited dvd and getting bombarded with "hips forward" I thought hips forward while I was doing my classic/skate and I felt faster but that could just be the faster snow conditions
hips forward. good weight transfer. shoulder square to the direction of travel.
instead of thinking kick, thought more about keeping the foot stationary as I pushed (hips) forward with weight tranfer to the glide foot. |

Valentine's conversation:
My wife: You must have skied about 200 km over the last week.
Me: Are you counting "instructional miles"?
My wife: Yes, as your recovery skis.
Me: If I cut back I'll turn into a remote-control-hogging 300 pound couch zombie!
My wife:
kaNUK
PS - She then went for a 30 km ski |

Did 5k with temp hitting high of 40F. almost like spring skiing.
Did some marathon skating using the tracks and it was fun drill. |
